Berkeley Lab

Black History Month at Berkeley Lab

The theme for Black History Month this year is “African-American/Black Women in STEM.” Throughout February, the Lab’s African American Employee Resource Group (AAERG) will showcase stories of Black women, their careers, and inspirational moments that have shaped their impact on the Lab and the global STEM ecosystem. One such woman is the US Department of Energy’s Director of the Office of Science, Dr. Asmet Asefaw Berhe, the first Black woman to hold that position.

Check out the Lab calendar for the list of events.

Additional resources are also available beyond the Lab, including BlackHistoryMonth.gov, a joint effort of several government entities, and a collection of physics-focused Black History Month resources of the American Institute of Physics.
