What Happens During Safety Week?
Similarly to the traditional Safety Day, the expected level of effort is a total of one work day. We are spreading it over a week to provide all of you the flexibility to complete the activities. We expect that within the one-day total envelope, people will work longer on safety issues that pertain especially to them.
These scenes from our last pre-pandemic Safety Day give an idea of what we do and how much good is accomplished with this investment of about 0.5% of the work year in the benefits of a safe and well organized workplace.
As always, we will emphasize good housekeeping and identification of hazards in common areas, offices, labs, and shops. Water connections on technical equipment; chemical hygiene; training; and review and updating of procedures are areas of special emphasis this year.
Detailed instructions and resources, including a list of disposal / recycling locations, self-assessment (QUEST) team assignments and checklists, and management walkaround assignments and checklists, are being added to this site, so check back often for the latest resources.
