The event recognizes and honors the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to our nation’s cultural and economic success. The month begins on the 15th because it coincides with several nations’ national independence celebrations, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16.
To celebrate the event, the Lab raised a banner on September 15 in front of building 65A at the site’s main entrance. It was one of several events during the month that focused on appreciating our colleagues and their contributions to advancing and supporting science.
