Berkeley Lab’s Accelerator Technology & Applied Physics (ATAP) Division led this year’s Multi-Lab Safety Week, held from June 10 to 13, 2025. For this year’s event, ATAP partnered with Berkeley Lab’s Facilities and Security & Emergency Services (SES) Divisions, and colleagues from Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) National Laboratory. The agenda and details of the seminar can be found in the flyer.
This year’s theme was “Learning from Experimental Planning,” with a focus on mechanical safety. It included seminars on Cryogen Safety: Ensuring Safe Operations, featuring speakers from SLAC and Fermilab, as well as Hazard Recognition in Worker-Planned Work, with speakers from Berkeley Lab and BNL. Additionally, in a new feature, the Lab’s SES Division held a Safety During Emergencies Fair on Friday, June 13, 2025.
As in previous years, Multi-Lab Safety Week was an all-hands, all-hazards event featuring ongoing learning and education opportunities. ATAP Programs set aside times that work best for them to participate in specific safety activities during this annual event. The event focused on:
Ongoing learning and education:
- Utilize the time to complete overdue and upcoming training
- Learn from the safety-themed seminars
- Learn about Safety During Emergencies by attending the SES event on June 13, 2025
Housekeeping:
- Review work practices and organize work areas
- Complete workplace cleanup and conduct self-assessments
- Participate in cross-divisional management walkthroughs and have peers review labs, shops, and offices
