BeamNetUS provides beam access at multiple DOE national laboratories, including Berkeley Lab.

BeamNetUS

BeamNetUS is a network of facilities dedicated to advancing particle accelerator research and applications of accelerator technology by offering access to beam test facilities within the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) national laboratory complex. It enables users to perform exploratory tests with the aim to establish new collaborations.

Facilities at Berkeley Lab that are part of BeamNetUS include HiRES and the Berkeley Lab Laser Accelerator (BELLA) Center.

BeamNetUS periodically accepts proposals for access to its facilities, which include charged particle beams and infrastructure for particle accelerator component R&D, at Berkeley Lab and several of our sister laboratories throughout the DOE complex.

BeamNetUS Node Point of Contact: Cameron Geddes.
Outreach and Engagement Coordinator: Lieselotte Obst-Huebl.

The HiRES team observes as live data comes in from the system.

HiRES

HiRES is a facility for high-resolution ultrafast electron diffraction experiments.

Facility Points of Contact: Qing Ji, program head, Berkeley Accelerator Controls and Instrumentation Program, and Wei Liu, project scientist, HiRES.

Researchers work at one of the laser beamlines available through BeamNetUS.

BELLA Center

The BELLA Center’s Hundred-Terawatt Thomson (HTT) and Hundred-Terawatt Undulator (HTU) laser systems are available through BeamNetUS. They offer the capability to accelerate high-brightness electron beams in compact plasma targets.

Facility points of contact: Jeroen van Tilborg, BELLA Center deputy for experiments, and Samuel Barber, staff scientist.
