The 2025 Multi-Lab Safety Week kicked off on Tuesday, June 10. Led by Berkeley Lab’s Accelerator Technology & Applied Physics (ATAP) Division, in partnership with the colleagues from the Lab’s Facilities and Security & Emergency Services (SES) Divisions, Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), and the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) National Laboratory, the week will be an all-hands, all-hazards event with ongoing learning and education opportunities.

This year’s theme is Learning from Experimental Planning, emphasizing Mechanical Safety, with seminars on Cryogen Safety: Ensuring Safe Operations by SLAC and Fermilab, and Hazard Recognition in Worker Planned Work by Berkeley Lab and BNL. In a new feature, our SES Division colleagues will have a Safety During Emergencies Fair on Friday, June 13, 2025.

The week will focus on:

  • Ongoing learning and education:
  • Utilize the time to complete WPC training
  • Attend and learn from the safety-themed seminars as part of ongoing learning and education

Housekeeping:

  • Workplace cleanups and self-assessments
  • Conduct cross-divisional management walkthroughs and have peers review labs, shops, and offices

Our colleagues from the Facilities Division will launch a daily safetygram campaign exploring this year’s theme. They will focus on the following:

  • Re-evaluate workspaces (workstations, craft shops, work vehicles) for potential hazards
  • Perform essential housekeeping (clean, organize, and discard hazardous materials)
  • Complete any outstanding training
  • Supervisors: Conduct a safety SBN

As an exciting and fun addition to this year’s event, the Lab’s SES Division will be hosting an “escape room challenge” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, as part of the Safety During Emergencies Fair. The event will also feature an earthquake simulator. Click here to learn more about the challenge and other activities being held at the fair.

Join us at Multi-Lab Safety Week and learn about how to keep yourself and your colleagues safe, as well as how to contribute to maintaining a safe and productive workplace.
