Last year’s Multi-Lab Safety Week was an outstanding success and a testament to our collective commitment to safety. This year’s Multi-Lab Safety Week will be held from June 10 to 13, 2025. In a new feature, our Security & Emergency Services (SES) Division colleagues will have a Safety During Emergencies Fair on Friday, June 13, 2025. Please save these dates on your calendars to minimize conflicts with all these activities.

In the past few years, the Multi-Lab Safety Week event has been a joint effort between our sister labs and us. This year, we will once again have a joint Multi-Lab activity with Fermilab’s Applied Physics & Superconducting Technology Directorate, HL-LHC-AUP Project, and the Accelerator Controls Operations Research Network (ACORN) Project, Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Magnet Division, Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC)’s Accelerator Directorate, and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL)’s Accelerator Systems Division, joining ATAP. Our colleagues from Berkeley Lab’s SES and Facilities division will also participate in the event.

Safety Week has become a successful tradition in ATAP since 2015. This year’s theme is Learning from Experimental Planning, emphasizing Mechanical Safety, with seminars on Cryogen Safety: Ensuring Safe Operations by SLAC and Fermilab and Hazard Recognition in Worker Planned Work by Berkeley Lab and BNL. Multi-Lab Safety Week will be an all-hands, all-hazards event with ongoing learning and education opportunities. ATAP Programs will set aside times that work best for them to participate in specific safety activities during this annual event. We will be focusing on:

On-going learning and education:

  • Utilize the time to complete WPC training
  • Attend and learn from the safety-themed seminars as part of ongoing learning and education
  • Attend and learn about Safety During Emergencies by attending the SES event on June 13th, 2025

Housekeeping:

  • Workplace cleanups and self-assessments
  • Conduct cross-divisional management walkthroughs and have peers review labs, shops, and offices

Plans will be coordinated with Program Heads and Program Safety Coordinators. (With the Division Director’s approval, programs with significant, unavoidable project schedule conflicts may choose to conduct some activities before the designated Safety Week). Detailed instructions will be communicated in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, please be prepared to participate in this highly beneficial investment in safety.

We look forward to seeing you there!
